an acronym for “Yes In My Back Yard”:
a person or group who advocates for added growth in the communities where they live; a counter to NIMBY-ism (Not In My Back Yard). In addition to developing more affordable and market-rate housing to increase the supply of housing, YIMBYs believe in prioritizing infill development near transit and employment centers with the goal of increasing our housing supply, leveraging our urban environments, protecting our natural resources and advancing economic inclusion and opportunity for all.
Our Core Values
1. INCREASE SAN DIEGO'S HOUSING SUPPLY
More new homes of all income types are necessary to achieve affordability and desegregation; prevent displacement and homelessness; and create diverse, mixed-income neighborhoods.
2. LEGISLATIVE REFORM
Government should explore ways to expand investment and incentives available to create permanently affordable homes.
3. COMBAT CLIMATE CHANGE
Increased development capacity for new homes should be focused toward infill, transit, and jobs to combat climate change and to protect open space.
4. ADVANCE ECONOMIC INCLUSION
Housing policy should advance economic inclusion and opportunity for all San Diegans.
About the YIMBY Dems
The YIMBY Democrats of San Diego County is San Diego's only YIMBY group and the first YIMBY democratic club in the nation! California is in the midst of a dire housing crisis.
San Diego County needs to build many more homes, both deed-restricted affordable and market rate, especially near transit and employment centers.
More homes are good!
