Policy Committee

About the Committee

Are you interested in learning all things housing policy? Don’t know where to start? The YIMBY Dems Policy Committee monitors local, state, and federal policies and legislation that impact San Diego’s housing supply, combat climate change, and advance economic inclusion. The Committee dives deep into housing policy issues, ultimately making policy recommendations to the general membership.

The Committee typically meets on the second Wednesday of the month at 6:30 pm (check the calendar for the most up-to-date timing) to discuss housing issues such as more new homes of all income types are necessary to achieve affordability and desegregation; prevent displacement and homelessness; and create diverse, mixed-income neighborhoods.

2023 Policy Priorities

  • Zoning Reform

Advocate for zoning that would increase density, sustainability, and dynamicity of our San Diego County communities.

  • Increased Funding

Advocate for new revenue sources, such as a new bond measure, new public financing mechanisms, and gap financing opportunities, to build more low and middle-income housing.

  • Establish Stronger Tenant Protections

Support housing stability and want to ensure that new housing does not (indiscriminately) displace disadvantaged communities.

  • Procedural/Regulatory Process Changes

Advocate for eliminating roadblocks that jurisdictions use to delay housing. We advocate for appropriate updating of important policy documents such as the General Plan, Specific plans, Elements, Code Updates, Community Planning Group Reform, Community Plan Updates, etc. when they are not in line with current housing and climate action goals.
